Paul Moreau graduated from the University of Alberta law school in 1988. After articles with a general-practice firm he joined the Alberta Justice Department as a Crown Prosecutor in Wetaskiwin, Alberta for four years until he was transferred to the Appeals and Criminal Law Policy branch head office, in Edmonton, Alberta and worked as Appellate Counsel for the Attorney General of Alberta until 1997. Representing the Crown in the Supreme Court of Canada and the Alberta Court of Appeal, Mr. Moreau also advised the government on issues of criminal law policy.

 
From 1998 to 2000, Mr. Moreau practiced civil litigation with Witten Binder, a large and prominent Edmonton firm.
 

Since 2001, Mr. Moreau has focused on criminal defence law at both trial and appeal levels, appearing in all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and concentrating on serious and complex matters. 

 

Mr. Moreau devotes a substantial amount of time to volunteer work, including sitting on several committees with Legal Aid Alberta and the Alberta Courts.

 

Mr. Moreau has been a sessional instructor at the Faculty of Law, University of Alberta, teaching Sentencing Law since 2017.
