PAUL MOREAU

Paul Moreau graduated from the University of Alberta law school in 1988. After articles with a general-practice firm, he joined the Alberta Justice Department as a Crown Prosecutor in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. After four years there, he was transferred to the Appeals and Criminal Law Policy branch at head office, in Edmonton Alberta, and worked as Appellate Counsel for the Attorney General of Alberta until 1997. Representing the Crown in the Supreme Court of Canada and the Alberta Court of Appeal, Mr. Moreau also advised the government on issues of criminal law policy.

 
From 1998 to 2000, Mr. Moreau practiced civil litigation with Witten Binder, a large and prominent Edmonton firm.
 
He established his own firm, Moreau & Company, in 2001, focusing on criminal defence work.

ASHOK S. GILL

Ashok brings an impressive list of credits and accomplishments—and a formidable arsenal of skills and expertise—to the legal team at Moreau & Company. After obtaining his undergraduate degree from the University of Alberta in 1994, he went on to receive his law degree from the University of British Columbia in 1997. He launched his legal career by articling with a prominent Edmonton law firm, and it was during this period that he was first exposed to the challenges and rewards of criminal defence work. It has since become his passion in the legal field.

Ashok was admitted to the Bar in 2001, and for the next several years, he worked with two different Edmonton-based legal firms, developing particular expertise in cases emphasizing constitutional issues. Since the earliest days of his career, he has been presenting and arguing cases across western Canada, including Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, and the Northwestern Territories. He has also successfully defended clients in both the Provincial Court and the Court of the Queen’s Bench.

DAVID WOLSEY

David received his Bachelor of Education degree with distinction in 2009 and Juris Doctor in 2012 from the University of Alberta. He worked as a summer student for the Offices of Robert D. Gillespie from 2010-2011, and completed his articles with Snyder & Associates LLP in 2012. David worked as an Associate at Snyder & Associates LLP and was employed there until 2015 where he joined Moreau & Company. David has successfully defended clients in Provincial Court, Court of Queen’s Bench, and the Court of Appeal.

KARANPAL S. AUJLA

Karan pursued his Bachelor of Laws with honours from the prestigious University of Dundee in Scotland after receiving a part scholarship. Upon returning to Canada, Karan undertook and concluded the National Accreditation Examinations required by the Federation of Law societies of Canada.
 
Karan has always maintained an avid interest towards Criminal Law and has had the privilege of learning and experiencing different aspects of both the British and Canadian criminal justice systems. Karan’s final term thesis death with the topic of, “Miscarriages of Justice in Criminal Law”, which was a very well received and commended by his peers and mentors.
 
Although a majority of Karan’s practice is in Criminal Law, he actively practices in the area of Family Law and Personal Injury and makes it his goal to achieve the best possible results for his clients.
 
 At one of the most sought after law firms in Edmonton, Karan spends a majority of his time not only in different levels of Court including the Alberta Court of Appeal, but also travels to several remote court locations including Calgary, Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Sherwood Park, and Leduc to name a few. Karan is confident and comfortable arguing various legal principles in a courtroom and is confident in his abilities to provide assistance to his clients while maintaining the highest of legal standards.
 
Previously residing in Calgary, Karan is a “gym buff” who enjoys maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle and is also a motorsport enthusiast with a great passion for cars and motorcycles.
 
Karan is also fluently conversant in English, Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu and will be happy to assist you in any of these languages.

CAMERON MITCHELL

Cameron is an associate at Moreau & Company. Specializing as a criminal trial lawyer, Cameron has experience with a variety of criminal charges and he has appeared in all levels of court, including: traffic court, the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench, and the Alberta Court of Appeal. He regularly conducts bail hearings, trials, sentencing hearings, Charter applications, and conviction/sentence appeals.

As a native of Spruce Grove, Cameron was born and raised in the Edmonton area. For his undergraduate education, Cameron moved to the Maritimes and attended the University of New Brunswick. He then lived in Toronto, where he worked as a communications associate, before moving back to Edmonton for law school.

Cameron graduated from the University of Alberta Law School in 2014. He articled under Kathryn Quinlan at Royal & Company, and spent four years practicing as a criminal lawyer with Peter Royal, Q.C. before joining Moreau & Company in August of 2018.
